Back in 2012 Simona hit upon one of life’s quirks and it vexed her.
And the more she thought about it, the more vexing it became.
It concerned her friends.
In a normal week she would see her ‘mum’ friends at the school gate; her ‘work’ friends at the office; with a passion for jazz she’d see her ‘musician’ friends; then there were also ‘family’ friends; ‘philanthropic’ friends; ‘neighbours’ who were friends and many other categories of friends that were all full of the wonderful women she knew. All of whom were defined by a societal label: mum; title; job description - and it vexed Simona that these were passionate women who all had multifaceted lives but whose stories and synergy would never meet because of such labels. She knew there were better ways to start a conversation than ‘what do you do?’, because when the action of communication and networking is only based around titles the conversation can be sterile and lead only to superficial connections. She wanted her friends to connect from the heart, because when those superficial layers are removed we reach that level of authenticity that allows paths to cross and transformational connections to happen. Conversations that start with ‘what is your story’.
Isn’t it amazing how one of life’s vexing quirks can kick-start a global movement.
Simona wished to create a very open and warm environment for women of all backgrounds to come together and share their stories face to face. Stories about life and work. Stories about challenges and aspirations. So with an original gathering of 98 women at her kitchen table, Simona set about celebrating women in totality, replacing the preconceived societal labels her friends carried throughout their daily lives with one of five coloured Dots.
And Hub Dot has been disrupting the way women network ever since.
