Today's blog is written by Duygu Ergin, our Dot Alchemist. Enjoy her wise invitation!
I am having a casual conversation with my boys.
Me-I guess it is a good idea having a work experience at some stage before you choose what you want for higher education. Boys-“But mum, no one does that nowadays, it is not compulsory anyway. Why do we need to do that?”
Then, another day, they come home with exam results. All good and I am still asking! “How did the others do guys? !!!”
Another Day: “Mum everyone eats pizza and chocolate bar for lunch at school. So why can’t we?”
Finally, I am getting the point; my life is getting really overcrowded with no one, everyone and others.
I have too many people to manage; my husband, my boys, no one, everyone and others, (by the way “others can vary in numbers too!!!) Who is this “everyone”? “Why do others, everyone and no one have so much power over us and on what we do?. “Why do we have to compare ourselves so much so with others?” When do we come to the picture? If we follow others in everything we do; how on earth we are going to live our own lives? Let’s ride life as how we perceive it, not as how everyone else sees it. We give ourselves some hard targets that are decided, or suggested by others. We try to become someone else in our jobs, we try to look like somebody else, we go to places because everybody else does, we do like things because others do.
We rarely oppose to the trend because no one does! Others are so much involved in our lives: relationships, choices, education, career, our looks…. we are so tired of managing everyone’s expectations.
Success should not be defined by others ..In fact, for me success is living life by making our own choices by following our own hearts, passions and talents; by feeling comfortable under our own skin; by being able to love ourselves as well as others. Let’s leave these others, everyone and no one behind us, let’s get some space to live our own lives….
